Research and Assessment

Research

Clear problem identification is at the core of any great solution.  We employ a range of qualitative and quantitative techniques to help you get clear, concise answers to your questions. Need help figuring out your questions? We got you.

User testing

Level up your user testing with cognitive components designed to surface the often hidden sources of friction or design-induced errors. We love to pair with existing user research teams to collaborate on designing the right testing and collection methods for your product! Project scope and duration varies.

Bespoke research projects

Tap our collective braintrust for your custom research needs. We offer access to world experts in user research, interaction design, software evaluation and testing. We partner with industry experts and your team to customize the research project to your needs, budget, timeline, and deliverables. We pride ourselves on being practical but rigorous in our methods, data collection, and analysis. We offer a comprehensive intake process to help you determine your needs.

Literature Reviews

Looking to do a deep dive into the current literature? We can help! We start with a needs assessment, define project goals, timeline, and deliverables so you get the information you need, how and when you need it. We specialize in translating complex concepts into accessible, actionable insights. Project scope and duration varies.

Assessment

Drawing extensively from over 40 years of complex, adaptive systems research and our own experience working with companies across tech, we have developed a series of tools to help you get better understanding of your current position so you can best target your resources and efforts. Our capabilities assessments give you insights into current state, trajectories of performance, and the velocity of that directionality to help you proactively make changes.

Joint Cognitive Systems Design Assessment

Building an AI platform or web app? Give your team the ultimate competitive advantage with our JCS Assessment. We review your design or current offering against our JCS Assessment rubric and offer a clear, comprehensive review of actual or potential friction points or barriers to adoption.

Joint Cognitive Systems
Design Assessment

A Joint Cognitive Systems framework looks at the cognitive capacities of humans, automation, machines and robots, and other cognitive artifacts to assess the impact of the joint activity on human cognitive performance. Drawing from current research in human-machine teaming, this innovative approach designs both mundance and challenging real-world scenarios for assessment. The results provide insights into potential or actual performance as new technologies are introduced. This offering is ideal for early stage companies, Venture Capitalists looking to assess a potential investment, or growth companies experiencing a decline in user adoption. Assessment scope and duration varies.

(Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning)
Learning From Incidents Organizational Capacities Assessment

We've been working with companies for over 8 years to enhance their abilities to efficiently and effectively learn from incidents. Based on research from over 600 companies and 8500 employees we've developed an LFI Assessment model. Based on a socio-technical systems analysis, the assessment looks at people, processes, leadership, practices, training, and much more to see if you could be getting more ROI from your post incident reviews. Project scope and duration varies on company size, scope, and complexity. A typical engagement is one week for pre-work, 3-5 days of on-site time meeting with your teams, with the report and debrief completed 4 weeks from initiation of the assessment.

Want to know how your incident response practices are stacking up against industry benchmarks? Curious if there is room for improvement to your practices, runbooks, training, and on-call scheduling? Burning out your engineers and want to know how to stop? We can help! TCE in partnership with Adaptive Capacity Labs is offering an Incident Response workshop for companies interested in making some changes. The workshop includes our IRA (completed by your team, with guidance from our facilitators) and participants leave with a prioritized list of potential changes to review with management and the team. The assessment is typically conducted by Principal or Staff Engineers, or Systems Architects guided by facilitators. While we believe in building capacity within your organization to solve your problems, individual assessments available by request.
